US Mint Gold Buffalo Bullion Coins Sold Out, Other Gold Coins Suspended or Limited

US Mint Gold Buffalo Bullion Coins Sold Out, Other Gold Coins Suspended or Limited

By Michael Zielinski on December 5th, 2009
Categories: Featured, Precious Metals, US Mint

http://news.coinupdate.com/wp-conten...ld-buffalo.jpgYesterday, the United States Mint announced that their American Gold Buffalo bullion coins have sold out. The Mint also announced the continued suspension of the remaining one ounce gold bullion offering, and the limited availability of recently released fractional gold bullion coins.
As it stands, all gold bullion offerings from the US Mint are currently either sold, out, suspended, or limited.

The Gold Buffalo bullion coins contain one ounce of 24 karat gold. Typically these coins have been available throughout the year for purchase through the US Mint's network of authorized bullion purchasers. This year the release was delayed until October 15, 2009. Since that date, the Mint has recorded sales of 200,000 coins. This amount, achieved in less than two months, exceeds the annual sales totals for each of the past two years.

The US Mint's other gold bullion offerings are suspended or subject to limited availability. Sales of the 22 karat one ounce American Gold Eagle bullion coins were suspended on November 25, 2009. The US Mint announced the suspension to authorized purchasers in a memo which cited a depleted inventory due to "continued strong demand." Additional coins are expected to be available by mid-December.

The US Mint began sales of fractional weight American Gold Eagle bullion coins this week on December 3, 2009. The coins available included one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce sizes. These fractional Gold Eagles are typically available throughout the year, but this year the Mint delayed the release to focus production on the one ounce bullion coins.

After only one day of availability, the US Mint recorded sales of 56,000 of the one-half ounce coins, 58,000 of the one-quarter ounce coins, and 260,000 of the one-tenth ounce coins. They have indicated that the inventory for one-tenth ounce coins has already been depleted and the inventory for one-half and one-quarter ounce coins is limited. The remaining limited inventory will be offered via the US Mint's standard allocation process and additional inventory is expected to be available in mid-December.

Last year, the United States Mint had been forced to suspend each of their gold bullion offerings, as they struggled to meet the increasing public demand for precious metals. By the end of the year the Mint decided to focus production on a single one ounce gold bullion coin, which was subject to rationing at the authorized purchaser level.

The rationing program finally ended in June 2009 and production of other gold bullion coins finally resumed in recent months. Although it seemed like the US Mint was finally catching up with precious metals demand, the latest round of suspensions, sold out coins, and limited availability suggest a recurrence of the supply problems of the past after only a brief reprieve.

These Buffalo coins are the choicest of the choicest cuts in the Gold bullion arena.IMHO. Going to try to pick some up if Gold sells a little cheaper in the next few weeks.

This kind of amazing demand does not stop with a $50, one day drop in the price of bullion.

Got the same thing. Went to check the site, SAEs now 'as low as' $3.99 over spot from 'any quantity' $2.49. Current supply according to their site is 109,550.

I don't think you're going to see any price reduction in '09 Buffs if gold continues to drop. The premiums will keep increasing, I questioned my sanity buying one when Au was ~$1050, now I'm very glad I did. Same thing with buying the GAE fracs and the UHR earlier in the year. Kind of a gold trifecta!

What is the Royal Canadian Mint doing different, so that they are not in the position of having restricted production and stopping sale of their product? One would have to assume that the US Mint is run by imbeciles and/or crooks?

Sadly G.A.T.A. told us years ago that the US Treasury in bed with the FED dumped way over half America's 281 million ounces of gold via the LONDON GOLD market to hike the US dollar and KILL the gold price.

Now they need the real stuff because today we learned that the CRIMEX COMEX is settling out their GOLD contracts with paper from GLD which is sadly a buch of paper or tungsten - take your pick.

The CHINESE would call them PLICKS! (sorry)

If you don't hold it quietly securely CLOSELY - you don't own a stinkin' thing... I'd betya! :4_1_72:

Jim Sinclair’s Commentary

The only place on the planet where gold is available in quantity is from the floor traders of paper pretend gold, the COMEX.

The physical market is out of gold. Whatever physical left in size is whatever remains to be sold by the IMF.

The Chinese are trying to finesse that purchase.

What a scam paper gold is!

US Mint Ends 2009 Buffalo Gold Bullion Coin Sales, Inventory Depleted
By Mike Unser on Dec 4th, 2009 in

The United States Mint today ended the sale of 2009 American Gold Buffalo Bullion Coins, telling customers in a memo that its inventory has been depleted and that no more of the 2009-dated coins would be produced.

"The United States Mint has depleted its inventory of 2009 American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Bullion Coins," the US Mint stated in a memorandum to authorized purchasers of the precious metal coins. "No additional inventory will be made available. As additional information becomes available regarding 2010-dated American Buffalo One Once Gold Bullion Coins, you will be notified."

Despite their late Oct. 15 release date, sales of the bullion Buffalos topped those from 2008 and 2007, as the following table shows

I don't understand. I thought you have FRN you buy metal. You run our of FRN or the mint runs out of metal you cry in your drink. Price not relevant yet.

I have been picking on you all for a couple years off and on about your desire to purchase things from the government. Its an odd desire to say the least.

Why support them? In any case, there are many private mints you can get metal from. I am sure they would appreciate the business.

Mint to resume sale of gold bullion coins

The U.S. Mint plans to resume the sale of several gold bullion coins next week, the Mint said in a memorandum to authorized purchasers Friday.

Sales of some coins had been suspended because of a shortage of blanks.

A limited quantity of 2009 American Eagle Gold half-, quarter- and tenth-ounce bullion coins will be offered starting Monday, the Mint said.

"Once this inventory is depleted, no additional inventory will be produced," the Mint said.

The Mint will resume the sale of 2009 American Eagle gold 1-ounce bullion coins Tuesday. An allocation will be made on a weekly basis until the end of the year, the Mint said.
